600 years ago the 1st botanical garden was created in Chapultepec in the times of Nezahualcoyotl. Mexico has always been characterized by the use of plants for medicinal purposes and therefore the study of plants.
The botanical garden is the ideal place to enjoy nature and learn from it without leaving the city.
There are 1300 varieties of orchids and 40% are Mexican. Here you will find one of the orchid gardens of the city, closed to protect the plants from direct sun, cold and to maintain humidity.
This garden has more than 200 species including succulents, cacti, agaves and as I said before, orchids.
And if so many plants, green and bird song has not relaxed you, enter the structure "El Refugio" where you will be "trapped" between platforms, comfortably lying down and watching the treetops.
There are also temporary exhibitions with environmental themes such as the Plastic Forest where the artist collected 2 tons of plasters in garbage dumps in Aragon to build this forest. These photos of the plastic forest were captured in December 2018.
Another temporary exhibition is the one presented in December of piñatas as part of the festival of flowers and gardens FYJA of the city. Choose the one you like the most and vote for it. The following correspond to the piñatas of December 2018, discover different piñatas each year.
The garden also exhibits a collection of herbs of smell which are identified. Fruits and plants with their medicinal and cooking benefits such as mint, fennel, rose, hoja santa, chili peppers and much more. It has a hotel for insects, remember that they are pollinators and therefore, play a very important role.
Have you ever seen a hotel for insects?, know one here and remember that insects are pollinators and therefore play a very important role in biodiversity.
I can also recommend the monthly event of the Picnic in the botanical garden, check the billboard to confirm dates.

Finishing your tour, take advantage and walk a little on Paseo de la Reforma, I recommend the temporary photography exhibitions in the bars of Chapultepec
If you continue towards the center of the city, be sure to visit the monument to the bicentennial of independence, very famous for its high cost and better known as "the suavicrema biscuit"
Finally, if you are interested in knowing another botanical garden in the city, I recommend the botanical garden of the UNAM, more information here:
