Living Museum The Botanical Garden of the UNAM

Did you know that there are magueys that take 75 years to bloom and when they do, they die? Did you know that Moctezuma II and Nezahualcoyotl already had their botanical garden? Did you know that in Mexico we have more than 70 varieties of agaves from where you can get different types of mezcal? Did you know that the original and authentic mecates of henequen are manufactured from a type of agave?

Nestled in the Pedregal, among the lava of the Xitle volcano, the botanical garden of the UNAM was born a little more than 50 years ago, it is a beautiful place where you can enjoy the most important collection of the country of agavaceas, cacti, living trees, medicinal herbs as well as its greenhouse "Manuel Ruiz Oronoz" for tropical climate plants.

Beauties of the botanical garden
Although its main function is research (it is part of the Institute of Biology of the UNAM) it is a place where visitors can enjoy this great garden, learn about the biodiversity of our country, learn about the care and conservation in the workshops that are taught there, take a guided tour or simply walk to see,  Smell and touch, of course, always without mistreating or dirty.

The Botanical Garden of the UNAM is located in the sports circuit in Ciudad Universitaria south of Mexico City, arriving at CU, follow the signs and you arrive because you arrive!  And since you are there, I recommend a double treat, organizing a double walk, 1) attending the Sunday concert at the Sala Nezahualcoyotl combined with a tour of the Botanical Garden.

There is much to do at CU, Universum, the Library, MUAC, etc., etc., etc.  But that's another story...

Enjoy it with the family, the girlfriend, the heartthrob, with the children, with the nephews, or simply with yourself!

If you want to know another botanical garden, I recommend Chapultepec, information here:
