The Colonia Hipódromo-Condesa is approaching its 100 years of life that will be in 2027 and is currently one of the most chic neighborhoods in Mexico City.
Since you can always learn something new, here are the new things I learned that caught my attention from this tour.
- The Hippodrome of the Jockey Club was inaugurated in October 1910, in the middle of the Revolution, difficult time for a Hippodrome, in fact they had to close it to reopen until 1921 although it did not last long because it closed to start the urbanization in charge of the Arch Jose Luis Cuevas between 1924 and 1927.
Amsterdam Avenue
Its design and "look" is very Parisian style (curious name since Amsterdam is in Holland and not in France) has a large ridge with a walking trail with centenary trees that give a very pleasant atmosphere when walking, you probably know that it is an ellipse that is the shape of the tracks of the racetracks soyou will finish where you started if you walk 2 km exactly. Here you will find young runners, people walking their spoiled pets, young parents with their stroller, foreigners who choose this exclusive area of the city to live and some other unwary like me who were touring in the area. I do not think you can get tired in this short distance but if it happens you can simply stop to observe, there are spots where you can stop and enjoy, like this armchair-sculpture where you can sit or these wooden benches of which you will find several in your tour.
