Where to eat in the Historic Center of the CDMX

The historic center of CDMX has everything, museums, old bookstores, museums, pedestrian streets, street artists, all kinds of shops and boutiques and of course, places to eat.

Here are just a few of the many places I've tried and of which I can give my opinion, I don't include anything I haven't tried for myself.  I hope these tips, are useful for you and that you continue to enjoy the CDMX.  The order in which they are listed is in alphabetical order.


The clasics


CAFE LA BLANCA

Where: 5 de Mayo #40
Nearby attractions: MUNAL, Palacio de Minería. Postal Palace, cathedral, old bookstores in Donceles
Parking: Bellas Artes
Subway: Allende
Building: It is not particularly interesting, you can not help but notice the old photographs of the walls and the furniture and decoration completely out of time.
Music: No
Type of food: Mexican and international, very good liver with onions

CAFÉ TACUBA


Where: Tacuba #28
Nearby attractions: MUNAL, Palacio de Minería. Postal Palace.

Building: Very beautiful old house of the seventeenth century, decorated with colorful motifs, talavera, blacksmithing, arches and lintels of quarry. 
Music: Live in the style of Guanajuato alleys
Type of food: Mexican
Did you know: Diego Rivera and Lupe Marín made their wedding reception at this iconic restaurant










CASA DE LAS SIRENAS

Where: República de Guatemala #32
Nearby attractions: Metropolitan Cathedral, Templo Mayor
Parking:  
Subway: Zocalo
Building: Old house, you can see the inclination of the walls, unparalleled terrace overlooking the cathedral, zocalo and main temple
Music: Live
Type of food: Mexican
Did you know: I recommend the sopes de veneno (marrow), golden duck and the hennite in mango mole





EL CARDENAL

Where: Palma 23
Nearby places of interest: Museo del estanquillo, Palacio de Iturbide, walk Madero street

HOSTERIA DE SANTO DOMINGO - Permanently closed


Where: Belisario Domínguez #72
Nearby attractions: Metropolitan Cathedral, Templo Mayor, Plaza Santo Domingo
Parking: own
Subway: Zocalo
Building: Old house, baroque atmosphere, paintings. XVI century.
Music: Live
Type of food: Mexican
Did you know:
- I recommend the best chiles en nogada I've ever tasted, plus they have them all year round!
-It is said to be the oldest restaurant in the CDMX






SANBORNS CASA DE LOS AZULEJOS

Where: Francisco I. Madero #4
Nearby attractions: MUNAL, Palacio de Minería. Postal Palace, Alameda Central, Bellas artes
Parking: Bellas Artes, López St
Metro: Bellas artes
Building: Very beautiful old house of the eighteenth century, decorated with colorful motifs, talavera, blacksmithing, arches and lintels of quarry. Its name is due to its azylejos exterior.
Music: Live in the style of Guanajuato alleys
Type of food: Mexican
Did you know:
  • Before being the parent company of Sanborns, it was the residence of the Counts of the Valley of Orizaba, Jockey Club and Casa del Obrero Mundial
The menu, is the same as in any Sanborns but the beautiful house is unique, the place is huge, arrive early so that you can take place in the main hall.














LOS GIRASOLES, Historic center

Where: Plaza Tolsá, Tacuba Street
Nearby attractions: MUNAL, Palacio de Minería. Palacio Postal, Alameda Central, Bellas Artes
Parking: Bellas Artes, López St
Metro: Bellas Artes or Allende (line 2)
Metrobus: Bellas Artes (line 4)
Building: Colonial house, with privileged view of Plaza Tolsá.
Music: street organ grinders
Type of food: Mexican
Did you know:
  • The building of this restaurant was the location of the movie Spectre James Bond, look for the commemorative plaque


I recommend the Oaxacan mole enmoladas.

  




SALON LUZ - Permanently closed

I will not say much since they closed it, but I will remember fondly the nineteenth-century atmosphere with psaltery music, the delicious sausages with fried parsley and the unique and unique tartar meat.  I will remember the family moments in that place and confirm that I will not attend the restaurant that replaced the traditional LUZ. 

It was located on the corner of Ghent and Venustiano Carranza, Historic Center.











The candy


DULCERIA CELAYA


Where: 5 May 39

Building: Art Nouveau style, with mirrors, tiles, wooden sideboards, very French

EL CAFÉ


DON PORFIRIO

In addition to the spectacular view of the Palace of Fine Arts you can enjoy here cocoa drinks and specialties in addition to the typical coffees. They also have chapatas. Of course, take it with patience because there is always waiting time.

Enter through the 8th floor of the Sears store on Av. Juárez.
