Public Transportation in Mexico City for non frequent usrs

 Why am I writing about Mexico City transportation?  looks obvious but it is not, people come from other cities and countries and city is so big that may not be exposed  to certain areas of the it.  Tourist may use them as well.  This is a quick guide if you are not a frequent user.

Vending Machines

  • Available in stations.  You can get your public transportation card and recharge it there.
  • There is a maximum limit for recharge amount, don't be surprised, maximum allowed is low, less than 10 USD:
  • Cards are used for subway, bus (metrobus),air cabins (cablebus).  Also for light trains, suburban trains, and RTP buses. 
  •  Many things to improve but Public transportation is getting better!
  • People over 60 don't pay if showing your ID

Routes

  • Lines are numbered and identified by colors, some people reminds better colors, other, numbers.
  • Every station has a name and a logo that relates to with you can find in that station. For example: Zócalo, La Bombilla, Panteones,  Felix Cuevas, Bellas Artes, Pino Suárez, Cineteca etc, etc.


  • A weekend tip is that bikes can go on cablebus, you will require an empty cabin where capacity is 2 persons + 2 bikes.


  • Wagons, cable cabins and metro bus show the names of the stations .


  • Also, in every station, you will find a map with all the lines and of course, nowadays, it is easier to find in internet or in Apps.

Women and kids section

  • All subway stations have a section at the right exclusive for women and kids
  • Metrobus exclusive area is at the front area of the bus, 1st floor for the 2 stories buses. Follow the signs that guide you to the right entrance.
  • Access is permitted to women and kids up to 12 yrs old. You may find security people ensuring compliance.
  • If men gets into womens area, they will be pushed out so be careful.
  • Air cabins cable bus don't have exclusive area, however, not needed as cabins are 10 person each only.

Connections

  • Some stations have connections with other lines or even with other types of transportation,
  • Subway amd cablebis work in 2 directions, be careful, uou might be going to the wrong direction,


Safety
  • Always, always stand up behind yellow line
  • Leave people out before getting in
  • Allow elderly people, disabled or pregnant women to use  designated seats.
  • Watch out for your belongings, do not put your mobile in your pants back pockets.
  • Weekends are less crowded.
