10 where to eat recommendations in Polanco, CDMX

The Polanco area and its surroundings is a zone where the modernity of Mexico City is combined with beautiful houses in the Californian colonial style and modern 21st-century buildings. There are museums, galleries, commercial areas, parks, and residences. Well located in one of the favorite areas for tourism and for city residents.

At mealtime, there are many interesting options with a range of prices, although the latter generally fall from mid to high range.

I recommend these options that I have tried. As always, on this blog, I only share my own experiences and photographs; my recommendations are for places I have returned to for their delicious flavor, quality, and atmosphere.

1. CASA ELEFANTE

  • Address: Newton 268
  • Indian food
  • Parking on the street, watchout, it is a parkimeter area
  • Variety of flavors, use of spices like curry, naan, vegetables, and sweets. It gives me the impression that the owners and staff are of Indian origin.

2-. SALA GASTRONÓMICA (inside Antropology Museum)

  • Address: Av. Paseo de la Reforma and Gandhi, Colonia Chapultepec Polanco
  • Comida mexicana
  • The Sala Gastronómica or Gastronomic Room is inside the Antropology Museum; it is "just" another exhibition room, where a very complete display of dishes from all over the country is exhibited (and of course you can eat them). The menu is like a museum exhibit card. It is impossible to try everything, but what I ordered was spectacular.
  • When you cross the security arch to enter the museum, you have the option to visit the museum after purchasing your access ticket (free on Sundays) or the option to go directly to the Gastronomic Room; for this, ask the security staff to give you your distinctive wristband granting access ONLY to the Gastronomic Room.  I strongly recommend you to visit the museum too.
  • The terrace is very pleasant; although there are umbrellas, it can get very hot. Even so, I prefer it to being inside.
  • Parking: The Museum has parking, although it is very crowded and expensive; for this area, I recommend arriving by metrobus or leaving your car far away and walking.

3.- CASA PORTUGUESA

  • Address: Emilio Castelar 111, Polanco
  • Delicious portuguese food.

  • The place is well decorated with mosaics, tablecloths, and dishware that evoke the famous tiles from the Iberian Peninsula.
  • Here I tried for the first time the Portuguese chilled green wine "vino verdhe", very tasty and refreshing; we liked the Avenela brand, it is reasonably priced and goes very well with Portuguese food. It's a good idea to have a bottle in the home refrigerator for any craving.
  • My favorite (we always order it) is the PRC, which includes, among other things, cod croquettes and meat croquettes.

4. AGUA Y SAL  CEVICHERIA

  • Ubicación: Campos Eliseos 199-A
  • Peruvian food.
  • In my opinion, the must-haves are the ceviche tasting and the esquites. The rest worths for exploring. I think the mojitos could improve, but the food is great!.
  • Tip: The place is small, make a reservation so you don't stay outside wanting to get in!
  • Street parking with parkimeter, you can pay for it with the MueveCiudad App

6. CAFEBRERIA EL PENDULO POLANCO

  • Address: Alejandro Dumás 81, Polanco

  • It is a cultural place, to read, buy books, listen to live music, and eat delicious chilaquiles and others.
  • Tip: pay attention to the menu and identify the names of dishes alluding to writers
  • Parking: it has Valet Parking, the area is complicated. You can park on the street with a parking meter but stay away from the area, right there it is impossible.

10. SAKS POLANCO

  • Ubicación: Campos Eliseos 133
  • Muy bonita casa, ambiente relajado y agradable.  Comida bien presentada y rica.
